Is activity on airline cause for concern?

Annie Jacobsen, a writer for WomensWallStreet, had an unnerving experience while during a flight from Detroit to Los Angeles. Here's her account, "Terror in the Skies, Again?" (Update: While this article isn't "ridiculent", I thought it should be shared... now it seems there's some counterbalance to the account - thanks, kap & djaj)

Maybe I missed something. Could you point out the ridiculentness in the story?

Sorry, this post runs counter to the mantra of Ridiculent. I just thought it was something that should be shared.

For another account of the same incident, this Snopes article seems more balanced.

Golly Dave, don't be sorry. I wasn't complaining. In fact I think you and Jeff should be commended for providing a fun, interesting, and often important yet still amusing web site. Ridiculent means I don't have to waste countless hours web surfing to find the truly ridiculent content out there that I need oh so much in my intellectual diet. Thank you.

djaj, thank you for that counterbalancing link. Interesting how one's observations can become self-fulfilling.

At least both articles agree that there were suspicious behavior on that flight that lead to FBI intervention.

While the Snopes article is very insightful, I was amused by this bit of senseless spectualtion: "The source said the air marshals on the flight were partially concerned Jacobsen’s actions could have been an effort by terrorists or attackers to create a disturbance on the plane to force the agents to identify themselves."

I would be keenly interested if other passengers related their first-hand accounts of the flight. In the meantime, perhaps Annie should learn not to pass judgement on groups of incontinent foreigners.

Last week, Annie Jacobsen wrote again, this time with an account from another passenger, in what WomensWallStreet bills as "Part V of the ongoing series", the other parts being follow-up articles written by Jacobsen. Proceed with whatever level of skepticism you feel is appropriate.

Interestingly, she "spoke at length with the United States House of Representatives Judiciary Committee" about this matter.

There has also been a Time Magazine article attempting to reconcile the experience.

That article really disgusted me, but it also got me thinking. Perhaps homeland security should establish a pre-flight "all-you-can-drink" mimosa plan or something similar to help unwind passengers. It may not stop terrorists but it could certainly stop unnecessary persecution of "racially targeted" musicians.

You're right! Musicians of any race should be unnecessarily pursecuted. (it's a joke)

"pursecuted" ... is that defined as execution by repeatedly striking an offender with one's handbag?
