Two Inventions

Hey kids, I'm back - did you miss me? In the interest of getting the ball rolling again, I present two cool inventions:

Fire Logs made from Coffee Grounds

Tropical Storm Epsilon

For those who haven't been keeping track lately: We're up to Tropical Storm Epsilon, which formed today (Nov 29), one day before the end of the official hurricane season.

Late-season tropical storms are somewhat like late-season garden tomatoes: They still ripen, but they're not really up-to-snuff with the regular-season stormatoes.

Idiot tries to open airplane door to have a smoke

Really, now. Can't we put this person on a no-fly list, or something?

2b? Nt2b? ???*

An effort by a British mobile phone service aims to convert works of literature to SMS messages. As a "study aid". One English professor remarks, "The educational opportunities it offers are immense ... [the compressed nature of text messages] fillet[s] out the important elements in a plot."

Or, put another way: "eductnl opps big: msgs fltr plot elemnts"

* - "To be, or not to be: that is the question."

Leave it to Bush!

I found these funny and well-executed Flash animations of Commander Cuckoo-Bananas:
Episode 1 – An Afternoon In The Park
Episode 2 – Snortin’ Coke On The Moon
Episode 3 – Strangers On A Train
(Note: These link to a site called TheToiletOnline.com. Although the site seems work-safe, with a URL like that I'm not offering any guarantees.)

Weblog Usability

The inimitable Jakob Nielsen has posted an Alertbox article titled "Weblog Usability". I'm proud to report that Ridiculent breaks 9 out of 10 of his rules! On the other hand, I think the entire point of Ridiculent is antithetical to Nielsen's notion of what a blog should be, so we should be breaking the rules!

<beavis>Breakin' the law! Breakin' the law!</beavis>

Not again!

Yet another change of radio stations in the Boston area that I disagree with... WBOT "Hot 97.7" is now WILD 97.7. The former station used to be good for a bunch of hard and heavy rap songs. The new station is - ewww - Urban Adult Contemporary.

Of course, opinions in this post do not reflect the opinions of the entire Ridiculent staff!
