Dear aunt...

The "All Your Base" of 2006: "Dear aunt, let's set so double the killer delete all". That's what Microsoft Vista's speech recognition engine heard during a live demo that should have begun, "Dear Mom". Well, T-shirts have already hit the Net, and if you'd like to see a video of the demo, hop over to YouTube before it's too late.

I fully understand that understanding real speech is a very hard problem, so my post here is intended as a milestone on the technical highway, not as a commentary on Microsoft products (check out this Vista demo (sounds like it took place in the Mos Eisley cantina), and have a look at Microsoft Live Lab's Photosynth project. That's cool!

Animaniacs on DVD!

FINALLY! Animaniacs is available on DVD. This was by FAR the most entertaining cartoon of the 90's - which, in itself, doesn't say much since there were some seriously CRAP cartoons in the 90's. But Animaniacs was just plain FUNNY. Goodfeathers, Chicken Boo, Good Idea/Bad Idea - and, of course, Otto von Schnitzelpuss Kranken Gescheitmeier! It also marked the first time I ever heard the words "anal" in a children's cartoon (in one of the Slappy the Squirrel" skits).

Giant Girl Puppet

I don't know the proper adjective to describe this video. It's very cool and very, VERY creepy at the same time. It's basically a video of a really, REALLY big puppet. I have no idea what the story is behind it.

Wacky Ski House Camera Time!

Apparently, this video is from some Japanese Candid-Camera type show. Unless you speak Japanese, you'll just have to guess what's happening up until the 90 second point, but the pranks are absolutely hilarious. There are two separate pranks - the second outdoes the first one by a mile, so keep watching!

It's amazing how much funnier this type of show can be when when not made in a lawsuit-happy country like America.

Craziest Recorded Phone Call Ever

OK, nobody really likes telemarketers, but this woman takes it to the next level. Wow. You really have to hear this. For someone worried about telemarketers wasting peoples' time, she rants unintelligibly for almost 9 minutes straight. And the best part is that the caller is completely, utterly calm the entire time.

Why senators should not be allowed near technology

According to Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), the Internet is a series of tubes (not a truck) that you use to send internets via your personal internet.

These are the kind of people who are debating Net Neutrality right now. Kinda scary.
